Political ads are simply crazy. Anyone believing most of them should have their heads examined! Every time I see another ad talking about how this guy did this and that for the state or locality, I have to laugh! They didn’t do anything but sign a piece of paper that someone else put in front of them. Granted, they could possibly veto or not sign it or whatever their particular office affords them the opportunity to do.
But seriously, the very idea that these politicians came up with idea is near ludicrous. If one is to see any legislation pass the house and senate, it probably got introduced by some other politician being hammered by lobbyists. Lieutenant Governors, etc…, don’t do much more than fill a position, dictate their letters to the masses, and sign papers - well, there is the public appearance part that has to be played out, also.
People really need to get it together and understand what politicians really do and what they don’t do. When you hear that so and so brought the Amber Alert to Virginia, know this, they signed a paper. Do you honestly think that one politician had anything singularly to do with it otherwise?? Come on now!

I used to like living here. It has had its ups and downs depending on the neighbors living here at the time. Within the last year or so, the neighborhood has added to the drug dealers collection. One of the houses down the street a bit would apparently sell drugs, as you could see the traffic come and go. No one would really stay long and there were a lot of visitors. Plus, I know these people aren’t movie stars or otherwise famous.
One of the houses I’m talking about is directly across the street. A black family who has a lot of visitors with a lot of kids. The kids are allowed to run up and down the street by whatever means possible - bike, scooter, foot, etc… - unsupervised. That’s right, the parents go on drug binges, have little drug get-togethers or whatever, while the kids play outside in traffic and/or throwing rocks at cars and/or into neighbors’ yards.
Another neighbor across the street deals big time. These people are white. Not only do they deal, they sit out on the front porch or go around the side of the house to toke a few among themselves. These people are a few fries short of a Happy Meal and it is obvious. They will get random visitors, usually after they have obviously just picked up their supply, who will hang out for about 5-15 minutes and be on their way. I’m not sure what they are dealing, but I am sure it is not Nerds candy.
You’re probably asking yourself, “Does this guy actually know they are dealing and using or does he just assume so based on what it looks like?” OK! You got me there! I am assuming so based on their actions. Take into consideration, I haven’t witnessed this once or twice, I see it ALL of the time. It is flagrant and blatant. They don’t work, they just sell drugs and go to the lake or just sit around on the front porch looking like and acting like morons without shirts. Sometimes they will have a cookout for their buddies. I affectionately refer to this as the “tardfest”.
Here is a picture of their house:

It has been quite some time since I last updated everyone. Since the last time we spoke a few things have changed. I no longer work for that regional telecom and I am no longer with that psycho girlfriend. Of course, my chief complaints about the world that surrounds me are pretty much the same. Most drivers are still idiots, I am working for a new company that reminds me a lot of the movie Idiocracy, and my dad continues to annoy me.
One thing I always try to hold onto is what I learned a long time ago. Granted, the message is somewhat cliche at this point, but nonetheless a truth to live by. That message is to not sweat the small stuff (things) and don’t waste your time trying to change things that you have little or no control over.
Everyday I am faced with another challenge to my better judgement. I can either indulge myself in the antics of those around me or I can simply chalk it up as one of those events that is better left to the parties that precipitated them. At the end of the day, you only have yourself and God to answer to and that’s all that really matters. Knowing that can help one handle everyday challenges with a greater sense of purpose and control over oneself. If you absolutely have to indulge… have a bowl of ice cream.

Today was food stamp alley at Kroger. Cara and I needed to replenish our cupboards a bit. So, we’re going through the isles, examining all of the new things in the “organic/health” section, and observing the people around us. Kroger recently moved their organic/health area from a very tight spot to almost the opposite side of the store. I like how it is turning out. No disappointment there. Read the rest of this entry »

Not much has changed since my last post about poor driving habits around the Roanoke, VA area. Most everyday, I drive to work on 581 and then 81N until I reach Daleville. Along the way, I have cars and trucks passing me like I’m sitting still while they zoom by like they’re in a race. You’d think with gas prices being what they are, drivers would be a bit more speed friendly with their cars so they may save a penny or two - maybe a dollar or two at the time of this writing! I just wish the drivers would be more considerate of everyone else on the road. Share the road people!!
